  • Course Summary
    The purpose of the Graduate Seminar in Biochemistry & Cell Biology is two-fold:
    • For each student to share information about the research being undertaken in his/her thesis project and receive scientific feedback;
    • For each student to practice and improve communication skills for giving seminars, lectures, job interviews, etc., and receive feedback on his/her presentation.

For second year students, the first written progress report is due at the beginning of the third semester of study (September 1), and must be provided to the research advisor by August 15 to enable time for feedback. The progress review that would be held at the end of the fourth semester is replaced by the Admission to Candidacy exam (A-exam). Starting in your third year in the PhD program, your written progress report is due to your advisor 2 weeks prior to your seminar, and the 4 original copies of the final version, incorporating your advisor's comments, are due in the department office 1 week prior to your seminar.

  • Classroom etiquette:

    Standard seminar etiquette is required. As a reminder, all electronic devices must be turned off, and alcohol is not permitted in the classroom.

  • Accommodations for students with disabilities:
