I am hoping that we will be able to get some information on this page which deals with the trials and tribulations of being a student/postdoc in sciences.  Other information will also be placed on this page as I or others find it interesting.  Please email links of interesting material to me and I will place that on the page (kaj@bioc.rice.edu).

There is an article released in the Science Nextwave which discusses the need for changes in the preparation of students and postdocs in science today ("Overcoming bad habits...").  This article is basically a single viewpoint of a National Science Board report on the topic ("NSB").

Other National Science Board documents may also be found at the home page.

The August 7, 1998 issue of the Chronicle of Higher Education has an article describing the current status of postdocs in science today.  It is a good, although depressing, read.

The HMS Beagle always has interesting articles about current science and even has job postings.  It does require registration, but this is free.

There is an interesting article on alternatives to academics on the Nature home page called Investigating the Alternatives.
Another interesting article at the Nature site include: The Write Stuff  which deals with scientific writing careers.

There is also an article on balancing family life and pressures to perform research (The Pressure to Produce).
