The
Galveston Bay Project
The
Galveston Bay Project is sponsored by theDepartment
of Biochemistry and Cell Biology at Rice University. Funding is provided through a four-year
Howard Hughes Medical
Institute Biological Sciences Educations Grant.
The program consists of two components, one for teachers and another
for middle school girls.
The
Galveston Bay Project for Teachers is a three-week program for K-12
teachers interested in learning more about the Galveston Bay watershed.
Now in its 6th year, The Galveston Bay Project focuses on the biological,
ecological, and geological issues of the area. While exploring the impact
of Houstons bayou system on the bay, participants conduct an extensive
water quality study. University and regional specialists work with teachers
in the classroom and at multiple field sites on how program materials
can be used to teach science and mathematics objectives in the Systems,
Field Investigations, and Measurement TEKS, and appropriately integrate
technology at all levels of instruction.
