More than seven species of the Ark shells are found in the Galveston Bay region. Thousands of these tough shells are thrown upon the beach. Most are edible and are a favorite food of the carnivorous snails. You will often find them covered with a brown organic skin called periostracum. The Arks reach 4 inches in size and found worldwide!!
