Geometer, get out the protractor and the graph paper with the rectangles you constucted.

  1. Draw a semi-circle centered at point C, starting at point D, and passing through points B, and F.
  2. Draw a quarter circle centered at point D, passing from point F to point H.
  3. Draw a quarter circle centered at point a and passing from point H to point J.
    4.

    Notice that a spiral shape is starting to form.

  4. Extend this spiral by drawing another quarter circle centered at point E, starting at point J.
  5. Extend the spiral again with a quarter circle centered at point G.
  6. Extend the spiral again with a quarter circle centered at point I.
    7.

When the group has reached this point, the navigator will inform the teacher who will provide an object from nature for comparison.
