Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in Bionetworks

The Rice Summer Program in Biological Networks provides summer biological research internships for students early in their undergraduate studies, with an emphasis on students at non-research institutions.

Resarch experience. The focus of this 10-week summer program is biological networks, complex interactions among biomolecules that give rise to the diverse biological phenotypes observed in nature.  Students work on research projects under different faculty and utilize a range of methods to study natural genetic networks, build artificial genetic and metabolic networks, and elucidate biomolecule structure, function, and evolution.

Career development activities. In addition to a research experience, this program provides: a creative opportunity for students to develop innovative biotechnological ideas; leadership, mentorship and social retreats; special seminars and career development workshops; stipend and travel support; on-campus housing; a capstone research poster symposium; and an ethics and responsible conduct of research discussion seminar.

Applying for 2018. Applications for the summer 2018 will be due in late January.  Application instructions can be found at the Rice Institute for Biosciences and Bioengineering. We anticipate having funding to support approximately ten undergraduates for ten weeks in 2018. Students enrolled at Community Colleges are encouraged to apply, even if they have no research experience.
