Re: [Bookclub] LYG + JFW

I found some similarities between LYG and JFW as well, besides the
obvious fact that they were both written in TADS. Both of them, I felt,
had somewhat sinister undertones. In LYG, you are searching for
yourself, while in JFW you are searching for John. I found JFW a little
more rewarding because I didn't have to ask for as many hints. I love
puzzles.. I just have a hard time solving them. :)

Also, I couldn't help but notice a little similarity between JFW and
Theatre as well. The swinging disk puzzle gave me fits in JFW because I
was trying to solve it the same way as the chandelier puzzle in
Theatre! This led to a bit of a guess-the-verb debate on ifMUD. I
didn't think to try the 'obvious' verb. (SWING disk, I mean.. whoever
heard of such a thing?? ;)

The other thing I thought these two games had in common was sort of a
ho-hum ending. In LYG, it was probably appropriate, but I think it left
a lot of questions unanswered. The ending in JFW seemed to just be
there to add some sort of closure.. but I felt there should have been
more to it. I felt myself screaming at the monitor, "THAT'S IT???" All
it seemed like was, 'Whee, you've defeated the ice wizard. Big deal.
It's time for hot weather.' The writing that was there earlier in the
game was not there in the ending.

Anyway, that's my two cents worth. Let the flames begin.
