Perhaps I meant more to juggle them than to compare them. But actually I
do think it's important (in order to advance the state of the art) to
make comparisons across different artistic media, as long as you
recognize that different media have different limitations and
possibilities. This is particularly true when the media under
consideration -- e.g., film, text adventures -- are all being used, in
part, to tell a story.
By the way, although the tratment of stock elements in JFW didn't
impress me, I completely agree that it's good for works to allude to
elements of earlier games in thoughtful and creative ways. I often like
works that do.
