Curses. Jigsaw. Christminster. Perdition's Flames. The Unnkuliae.
Lost New York. Veritas. Spiritwrak. Anchorhead. Losing your Grip.
Once and Future.
And that's just from the top of my head; but that should be enough
counterexamples to show that, although the competition has encouraged
shorter-length games, and people are experimenting more, there's still
no shortage of solid, engrossing games at longer lengths.
And there's almost nothing

Well, this is true; things like HTML-TADS and Blorb should start
changing that, though, if authors can rustle up the artistic talent
somehow.
