Ph: 713-348-2220 With the growing threat of antibiotic resistance, there is an increasing demand for new antibiotics that can effectively kill resistant bacteria. Under the guidance of Kathryn Beabout, a graduate student in the Shamoo Lab, I am studying the pharmacology of novel drugs that were derived from natural products and synthesized by the K.C. Nicolaou Lab. I plan to study their biological susceptibility and method of action against a variety of clinical pathogens and lab strains. Understanding the mechanism behind these novel antibiotics can lead to further development of novel antibiotics that combat resistant bacteria. |
