My laboratory focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying evolution through studies designed to explore the fitness-conferring structural changes that arise within proteins under selective pressure. My work addresses the biophysical origins of the fixation of specific mutations in the molecular evolution experiments performed by my colleagues and will provide the underpinnings of a model for understanding why certain evolutionary pathways are taken at higher rates than others.
