Getting Started with the PRID:

The easiest way to query the PRID is in Microsoft Access®. This program is made to handle databases and is actually very easy to start with. Most Windows machines have Microsoft Access® in addition to Microsoft Excel®. At the bottom of this page are Tables of data that have been assembled from the PDB (http://www.rcsb.org). We will update these tables as new structures come in.
  1. To download the data just click on the Excel® formatted file and bring it to your desktop. Under the "File" dropdown you can use the "Get External Data" then "Import Table" to get the data. Access® will prompt you from this point on. Make sure the "Show Worksheets" box is picked then hit "Next". On the next screen make sure "The first row to be column headings" box is picked and then you can go to "Finished." This will make new relational
database table with a .mdl extension.

  2. Try a few simple things with the file. We will start with the "Query Wizard" since it is the fastest way to start asking questions of the data.

  3. If you need further assistance, contact Dr. Shamoo (contact information located at top right corner).
